Movie Buff's: Do you think when we are adults like 50 video games will over take movies as the dominate form?

I mean I personally keep seeing games getting better and better the plot/acting is like hollywood quality in the 80's/90's. And even tho it appeals to mostly young males the game Modern Warfare 2 has made of a billion dollars in sales, just surpassed by titanic and Avatar (granted games cost 60 bucks)

But i personally feel like videos have made action movies seem dull to me since its just like a cutscene only I can't control the game I am not the hero. And I feel once our generation gets old video games will over take hollywood.

In short, no.

You have to understand that the movie industry and the game industry are too different to make one better than the other ( it's like comparing apples to oranges). I do, however, believe that both industries will likely competitive.

Movies are intended to tell a story. Generally, when we watch a movie, we feel as though we are in the third person. We see the events unfolding rather than feeling as though it is happening to us. The opposite is true for games.

Games have the power to be immensely interactive, thus putting the player in a first-person environment feeling as though he/she is the cause of the victory (and occasionally failure.) This interaction between the game and the player is what is causing the gaming industry to grow as fast as it is, and will likely continue to do so.

Off the top of my head, Half-Life 2 would be a great example. When you play the game, you feel as though YOU are Gordon Freeman. YOU are carrying out the actions and ultimately lead to 'unforeseen consequences' which YOU have created. If this were a movie, much of the action would be pointless. Much of the enjoyment we get comes from killing the waves of monsters would be limited to a few minutes of action footage.

Similarly to the difference between books and movies, it is dependent on what you hope to show the viewer/reader. If you hope to investigate the psychology of a character, write a book. If you wish to recreated the events surrounding a character, create a game. If you hope to tell a story, make a movie.

What is the most violent video game?
I am talking about really gut wrenching games with gore. No, I am not some crazy person obsessed with violence, i was just wondering, since I finished dead space2, i really thought the game industry is really upping violence. I personally thought the game was overall pretty cool though, really scary too.

The most violent games I have played is Deadspace 2 and God of war 3. If you have played these games you know what I mean. (watch the video's on you tube if you havent )

I am looking forward to Ninja Gaiden 3 which looks awesome , I personally think it has the potential to be possibly the most violent game ever. The developers of this game said one of the details of playing the game is that when you slice into an enemy's limbs with your sword, you can feel the resistance and grinding sensation of cutting through bone in the controller. (Not literally, but you will feel uncomfortable holding it). Oh and also Dead island coming out this summer. You fight zombies with axes and knives so yeah. (check out the trailer for both games)

For anyone who doesn't play video games, grand theft auto is not the most violent game ever, despite what media says about it. It can give you insight on crime but not really that violent.

Oh and if you are a prune and the type of person to sue games for being to violent, just remember that you have to be 17 in order to buy those games( the stores that sell games make a big deal out of that). That is also the same age to see an R rated movie, some of which, are really messed up. Besides how impressionable are you at that age? It's just one short year from 18 which is a legal adult, and the age to join the army or the marines.

Manhunt on the PS2 was pretty savage. It was developed by Rockstar so it's quite similar to Grand Theft Auto but the aim was to kill people in the most brutal way possible.

Horror Movie with a Jamanjii twist?
Recently, as I surfed the never ending web, I came across an ad for a horror movie. It reminded me of Jamanjii (sp?) with blood, guts and death. I was intrigued, to say the lest. I now can't remember the name. I do know that the word "lake" is in the title.
