Did u know that there is a bird called the blue footed boobie? there is also one called the red footed boobie and the masked boobie...HAHAHA. |
| Useless information, but very entertaining. Thank you very much, now I won't be so bored. I will now journey over to google. I gotta see a pic. Thanks again!! |
Where can I buy a blue footed boobie? are they an endangered species or can one purchase one, are they difficult to care for? |
marinebio.org/species.asp?id=527
They are a tropical species that spend most of their time in the water and eat a diet exclusively of fish. They can't be kept as pets (if you are really serious), and are endangered. |
Who named the blue footed boobie and why? who named the Blue Footed boobie bird and why did they name it that |
The name 'boobie' comes from the Spanish word 'bobo' which means a clown, or someone really dumb (like we would call someone a 'clown' meaning just that he's a dummy).
As for the blue-footed part, well Google 'blue footed booby' and see. They really have blue feet! |
Blue Footed Boobie Stuffed Animal!!!? One of my friends told me she really wants a Blue Footed Boobie stuffed animal for christmas and I wanna get it for her but idkk where? I know they exist because my scientist teacher has one but where can I get one??? |

Have you ever heard of a blue footed boobie? www.amazingjourneys.net/2008%20Galapagos/blue-footed-boobie-galapagos-big.jpg |
| Of course I have...I went down to Mexico to try and see one but saw Brown Boobies instead. There is also another species of boobie called the Red-footed Boobie. Boobies are not closely related to the albatross like someone else answered..they are closely related to Gannets. |
Blue footed boobies? If I mate a blue footed boobie with a red footed boobie, will i get a purple footed boobie, or is this not possible. I am not joking around here, my cousin has a boobie farm in peru and we are wondering if this is possible without trying it first and possibly harming them. Thank you. |
| It's hard to tell with genetics. It depends which genetic marker blue foot coloring is on. They may come out purple, or they may come out mottled blue and red. I don't think it would harm the bird to create a hybrid, but most hybrids are sterile, so you probably would not be able to breed the color true. |
Are webbed feet in an animal a poorly adapted trait when they walke on land? yes rite?
because like the blue footed boobie walks clumsy or am i wrong |
The webbed feet are not a "poorly adapted trait" because they are not adaptations for moving on land. Webbed feet are characteristic of birds that spend most of their lives in the aquatic environment.
What happens is that the terrestrial and the aquatic environments are so different in terms of their physical and chemical characteristics, that the same trait that represents a strong adaptation to move in one of those media will probably be a constraint (limitation) to movement in the other.
It's not only that the feet of aquatic birds are webbed, but that they are located more toward the rear of the animal than in terrestrial-adapted birds. This provides them a very streamlined shape when they dive and move gracefully in the water, but also gives them their "clumsy" appearance when they move on land. It's a trade-off of their strong specialization for aquatic life. |
